Lisbon School of Architecture
19–20 May 2022

As we look forward to meeting you safely face-to-face, we are now delighted to announce that REDES2022 Conference will take place in 19–20 May 2022, at the Lisbon School of Architecture.

The mobility restrictions we have been living with since the outbreak of the pandemic have led us to reconsider the schedule of the 2nd Conference on Research and Education in Design (REDES). A conference taking place in the Fall of 2021, as previously planned, would have to take place as a virtual event. However, we found that much of the success of our first conference was due to the lively discussions taking place in informal settings between presentations, at meal times, during bus drives and leisure evenings. Moreover, the first edition reinforced our belief that design educators need a dedicated space where they can more frequently discuss their approaches to research and education among their peers. We aim to build on 2019’s insightful event and push the discipline of Design forward in a time of enormous challenges on a global scale.

With the main theme of Proximity, the 2022’s edition will explore the challenges and opportunities for Research and Education in Design, with the widening and closing of distances in these unpredictable times. Please find the Call for Papers here.

The REDES conferences are organised by The Research & Education in Design group, which is a part of the Research Centre for Architecture, Urbanism and Design (CIAUD) at the Lisbon School of Architecture, Universidade de Lisboa (FA/ULisboa). The group was founded and is coordinated by Prof. Dr Rita Almendra, who chairs the REDES Conference series.

You can access videos of 2019’s event as well as links to the publications that resulted from the conference here. The Proceedings were published as a book by Taylor and Francis and can be accessed here.
